I started this painting in August of 2008 after seeing an abstract by my friend Canadian Artist Elaine Krueger. I spent a week with her painting across the room from me and saw so much in it. I saw such pulsating joy with a woman and raven stomping with joy and dancing their hearts. I finished this painting in February 2009, it was a long haul. Rarely do I have an image in my head when I start a painting, but this time I did and wanted to paint it after seeing Elaine's work. The image in my head and what became the finish painting was a fantastic journey. Somewhere along the way I had to give up the image and surrender to the journey, to what was coming forth on the canvas. I got the idea to film the process after I had already put on the undercoat and background. You can watch the first part of this journey below. I call it "Carlos Joy" Part One - Woman and Raven.
