Artist Statement
Working with acrylics on gessoed canvas I paint for the sheer joy of colors, to tell a story, to answer a question... to ask questions. My painting is deeply influenced by two worlds, the deep woods of Maine where I grew up, the wild mountains and the wide-open spaces of the West where I now live. These natural worlds come together with my inner spiritual self, from there I create my art. I have always been aware of the simple beauty in this world. Like the sunlight across the floor, rippling water, color, the shape of a leaf; the sights that are all around us every day. The ordinary that is exquisitely beautiful, the stillness in the moment, in the breath. My paintings are a direct conversation and exploration of that stillness, the stillness between breaths. Painting is organic and intuitive process for me. My paintings become a journey of self exploration, to see what arises on the canvas; painting not what is seen, but what is really there. My painting is like my life, a continuous process of growth and learning. To exercise my awareness through painting, to touch the Mystery... that is why I paint.

Artist Bio
Mark Easton was born in Maine 1959 and grew up there, moving out west to Colorado six years ago. He now resides in Spokane, WA. A self taught painter working primarily with acrylics on canvas Mark uses bold colors, mythological themes and a spiritual voice to speak to that which is deep within us. In 2005 Mark received an acrylic paint set and a piece of masonite, he took up a paint brush and started to paint. His paintings are deeply influenced by his upbringing and his deep awareness of the beauty in this world. The deep woods of Maine, the wild mountains and wide open spaces of the west, the expansive colors of the Southwest desert, all play an integral part in Mark’s choice of color and theme. These natural worlds come together with his inner spiritual self and from there he creates his art. Mark Easton’s current work builds on this. With his love of color and unique composition Mark’s painting has evolved organically and intuitively into a unique style of contemporary expressionism and abstract art telling a rich story in each piece. Mark’s work is an invitation of exploration.
